What material can be used as a washable and reusable kitty litter?
I want to scoop the #2 and rinse the urine with a gallon of water which would flow though holes similar to how things are rinsed with a colander.
It would have to be something that would not absorb water or at least dry out quickly. And the pieces would have to be no larger than pea size and not to small that they would pass though a tiny hole.
That sounds like an awful lot of work and very messy.
Why don't you just use wood stove pellets? They totally absorb the moisture and odor from urine and the pellets break down into sawdust. If you dump the pan when the pellets are about 2/3 of the way broken down the pan dumps out dry. And best part? They're super cheap - about $4 for a FORTY POUND BAG! You can find them at Home Stores, feed/farm stores and grocery stores if you live in a cooler climate. They're the exact same product as what's sold as "Feline Pine" - but without a cat face on the bag and for 1/8 of the price.

Reusable Shopping Bags
Plastic shopping bags make millions of pounds of litter on land, oceans, coastlines, and landfills. They injure and kill wildlife by entanglement and accidental ingestion. Plastic bags photodegrade, breaking down into toxic particles that contaminate soil and water and enter the food chain. Plastic shopping bags are manufactured from polyethylene which is made from oil, furthering our dependence on foreign oil.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, over 580 billion plastic bags are used worldwide each year. It costs more to recycle plastic bags than to produce new ones, and only 1% of bags are recycled.
A simple solution to reduce the use of plastic shopping bags is to use reusable shopping bags. There are many types available made of durable, washable fabrics, some even with side pockets for large bottles and other bulky items. They are lightweight and have handles, and are made to withstand heavy items, so there is no breakage. Some countries have banned or taxed plastic grocery bags, and it has made an enormous reduction in consumption and waste. It has successfully encouraged their populations to use reusable shopping bags.
Greenlinepaper.com now offers compostable and biodegradable plastic bags. In addition to lawn and garden bags, kitchen bags, and compost pail bags, they offer retail bags to be used as an alternative to conventional shopping bags. They are 100% degradable, and they are manufactured to break down in municipal composters.
